According to a new analysis from the Tech Transparency Project, despite going to great measures to advertise itself as an environmentally conscientious tech company, Apple joined multiple business organisations that are "fighting initiatives to cut greenhouse gas emissions."

As per the report, Apple was a member of many "business groups that strive to block action on global warming" as recently as 2020, including Business Roundtable, BusinessEurope, and the Texas Association of Business, among other organisations with soot on their hands. A request for comment on the report was not returned by Apple.

Last year, the Business Roundtable was one of many corporate-backed organisations that opposed the Democrats' $3.5 trillion budget resolution, which included a $150 billion proposal to accelerate the development of electric vehicles and increase renewable energy generation. The trade association, which includes Alphabet, Walt Disney, and Salesforce among its members, challenged the proposal over corporate tax hikes, as expected.

In a 2019 statement, the Texas Association of Business (TAB), another group backed by Apple as recently as 2020, spoke out against the "application of environmental regulatory measures that have the explicit impact of encouraging an alternative energy policy." The group's resistance to stronger ozone and methane limits was set out in the same document.

The Tech Transparency Project stated, "It's not apparent how Apple, which deems climate change 'the defining challenge of our time,' can square its relationship with TAB with its environmental positions." Apple has a history of opposing right-to-repair legislation aimed at reducing e-waste, according to the advocacy group.
